Gun Show report
Pretty heavy traffic at the gunshow. A few thoughts:
- No wait to get in. My little one and I got there about 11:00, and no wait.
- V wasn’t the only kid there, and wasn’t the only girl, either. It’s great to see that.
- Funny aside. V and I had a chat before about the “no touching” rule. “Remember, honey, some people don’t want you to touch their stuff. If you want to touch something, we have to ask permission.” A few minutes into our walk through, V, at the top of her lungs…”Daddy! That LITTLE BOY IS TOUCHING!!!!,” she shouts, pointing at a youngster of about 9 or so, 4 years her senior. It was a nice improvement. Usually she is yelling at patrons for 4 rules violations.
- AR mania seems to be dying down a bit. There were parts a plenty, uppers, and complete rifles. I was able to get two DPMS lower part kits to finish off my receivers.
- I also picked up a Magpul CTR buttstock for my carbine. Wow. What a piece of gear! Not a hint of a rattle on my AR now.
- Plenty of ammo around. Prices were reasonable, except for the optimistic gentleman selling .380 ball for $25 a box. “Only .380 at the show,” he said proudly. At that price, it will be there a while.
All in all, an enjoyable afternoon!
Lets all go to the gun show…
I’m off to the Merchandise Mart to visit the gun show here in Charlotte. I’ll be the geeky looking guy with the Mickey Mouse hat.
Let’s all go to the gun show…
I just tried to get into the Charlotte show at the Metrolina expo. The line to get in was, conservatively, 200 people deep. We waited in line for 30 minutes and moved like 20 feet closer to the entrance before finally giving up…we will head back this afternoon. I’ve never seen that kind of crowd
Just got back from the gun show
I spent the morning at the Charlotte gun show. I always like to walk around and hear the buzz. I did get to join Grass Roots North Carolina.
There were almost no ARs to be found. The ones that were there were so overpriced as to be laughable. $1400 for a basic Bushmaster carbine? Hey, its only $200 over MSRP…why not?AR mags were in pretty good supply, and not too overpriced. Likewise, the AK mags were available. One vendor wanted $30 apiece for Romanian 30 rounders. Good luck with that, buddy. There were quite a few SKS models around…the going price seemed to be about $450, which could have been why there were quite a few around. There was the usual assortment of jerky and stun guns.
I also like watching the negotiations. My favorite are the dealers with the semi-uncommon guns (anniversary models, for example) that they treat like they are made from gold. Signs that say “serious offers only” are a good indication that you are dealing with that. At the other end are the folks trying to sell their “custom guns” at outrageous prices. This time it was a gentleman with a bubbaized M1A with a wood stock, a “pistol grip” that looked to be simply screwed into the wood stock, some kind of aftermarket muzzle break, and a “tactical” sling. I’m not sure what he was asking for it, but it might have been worth it just to put the poor thing out of its misery.
I also looked at a little Bersa .380 in a nice satin nickel finish. For some reason, I’ve always liked that little pistol. I finally decided against it…Christmas is coming and there are other things I can spend money on.
Gun show today
I’m heading to the Charlotte gun show today. See you there.
