Good News!
So I just found out that my company is planning their 2012 kickoff meeting in Las Vegas during the week of the 01/16. Lets see, what is going on in Vegas during the week of the 16th…?
I’ve already registered my credentials. I’ll be bouncing back and forth between *REDACTED* and NSSF events. I know that JayG is going to be out there…any other gunnies going to be in attendance?
Gun control doesn’t work
Via our good friends at American-Manifesto, we learn that the Brits are covering up their problems with gun crime. Guns are very heavily regulated in Britain. And yet, gun killings are up 400%. The solution to this problem?
Smith last night proposed the setting up of neutral “drop-off zones” where illegal weapons could be handed in. “This means we can actually take that gun out of circulation and stop it from doing harm,” she said.
What’s the definition of insanity again? Doing the same thing and expecting a different result?
I can’ figure out the thinking here….that the criminals will turn in their guns because, while they have no problem with murder, but having an illegal firearm is just too much? Sorry, guys, it’s not the gun. “It” isn’t doing harm. And only law abiding people…you know…abide by laws.
And another thing….
The Heller decision finally shoots down (pardon the pun) the silly argument that the second amendment only applies to flintlock muskets:
Some have made the argument, bordering on the frivolous,
that only those arms in existence in the 18th century
are protected by the Second Amendment. We do not interpret
constitutional rights that way. Just as the First
Amendment protects modern forms of communications,
e.g., Reno v. American Civil Liberties Union, 521 U. S. 844,
849 (1997), and the Fourth Amendment applies to modern
forms of search, e.g., Kyllo v. United States, 533 U. S. 27,
35–36 (2001), the Second Amendment extends, prima
facie, to all instruments that constitute bearable arms,
even those that were not in existence at the time of the
founding.
I’ve always thought that was a silly argument….good to see that the supremes agree.
New Link
I’m adding a new link to the Gunnies list. LearnAboutGuns.com is a great resource for new shooters.
