TigerSwan, four days and counting
I’m getting psyched for the upcoming NC blogger TigerSwan class. Sean sent out an email with the instructors info:
Brian Searcy – President/COO
TigerSwan’s President, COO, and co-founder, Mr. Brian Searcy, served 23 years in Army Special Operations and spent the last 16 years with Delta Force. His leadership experience included serving as a military advisor in Central and South America and as the Command Sergeant Major for a 1,700 person Joint Special Operations Task Force in Iraq. A decorated combat leader his awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit and the Bronze StarAs a Delta Force instructor, Mr. Searcy authored and taught classes in assault planning, VIP protection, rifle and pistol marksmanship, explosive and mechanical breaching, close quarters battle and hand to hand combat. He also served as the program manager and primary instructor for Delta’s shooting program. As a civilian consultant to the Pentagon’s Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Defeat Task Force, Mr. Searcy worked in Iraq and the United States training soldiers and marines to predict, detect and mitigate the threat of IEDs.
A competitive shooter for over 25 years, Brian has competed at the top levels of competition in both precision and action shooting. Brian is a U.S. Army Distinguished Pistol Shot and has been awarded the President’s Hundred Tab. His other marksmanship accolades include: Overall Winner- 2005 Joint Special Operations Command Small Arms Championships and the 2003 North Carolina Indoor Conventional Pistol Champion.
In addition to receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Government from Campbell University, Mr. Searcy earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Central Michigan University. Additionally he has completed an executive leadership program at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and Harvard Business School’s Finance for Senior Executives.
Looks like he’s the real deal.
I’ve got to decide what I am bringing. I think I am going to end up defaulting with an M&P. 9mm or .40sw? Choices, choices…
Blogger shoot
I just got off the phone with Sean, who mentioned that we still have a few spots open for the class at Tigerswan. I can’t wait…It should a great class. If you want to attend, let Sean know.
Why they hate us
I’ve tried, over the years, to articulate the hostility that we gunnies get from the anti-rights crowd. But I’ve never done as good a job as Sean. Go read.
Outing myself
Normally, I’m pretty circumspect about who I talk gunnie things with. But today, I met a new colleague for the first time. My job is very “virtual”. I work from home most days, when I am not traveling, and I know most of my co-workers from the phone. I’ve been working with one guy on a project, and we spoke on the phone for the first time today.
“Now, where do you live,” I asked? (Pretty common question, actually, we are all over.)
“Pittsburgh.”
“Oh, I was supposed to be in Pittsburgh a few weeks back, but I couldn’t make it.”
“What for?”
Man…do I tell him?
“Um….the NRA convention, actually.”
“Oh, neat! A buddy of mine worked a booth there. We should hang out. I shoot an XD-M. Nice gun.”
Gunnies…we’re everywhere.
A note from Gunsite
My buddy Terp just got back from a Gunsite 350 class. He dropped me a note:
Well, I am back from 350. It is an intense training course, that’s for sure. Still a good time, but very intense. We fired over 1500 rounds in four and a half days. I did bring my GLOCK 21, which is the full-size .45. I had some failures to return to battery, and light primer strikes (probably due to the pistol not locking up fully), that Cory Trapp could not diagnose or fix. I used it for the training, though, and at least did not have a catastrophic, pistol-disabling failure, like last time. I had a new crew of instructors, Charlie McNeese, Ed Stock, and Jay Tuttle. They were all good, as expected. I did visit with Mrs. Cooper again, just to pay my respects, as she is such a warm and caring person and again invited the class to the Sconce on Friday. Although I wasn’t able to win the shootoff this time (an incredibly fast “kid” who lives near Gunsite and has taken a bunch of classes won, and deservedly so) I did get another Expert rating, along with the gold raven pin. New twists in 350: more room clearing exercises, a force-on-force scenario, and a 35 yard prone shot added to the school drill. If you do go to 350, you’ll enjoy it, I have no doubt. Take care, stay in yellow, and stay safe!
Terp
Terp is a fantastic shooter….he was the high shooter in my 250 class, and earned an expert rating in both classes.
I’m super jealous, Terp. I can’t wait for next April.
Blogroll update
An NC Gun Blog joins George’s Handy Dandy Blogroll.
Fun with Gunnies
Last week, I sent JayG some mags and one of my Russian army hats. Hilarity ensues.
Thanks, Jay. You made my morning.
Pardon our dust
After JayG pointed out that he was inexplicably missing from Newbie Shooter’s Farm Fresh Blogroll™, I decided to do a little maintenance. Man, was that thing dusty!
Here is the Bugfix list:
- Added a link to MArooned. For your daily dose of angry snark. And you can leave saying “Man, North Carolina may be the California of the South, but at least I don’t live THERE!”
- Fixed a known bug in which xrlq was not listed.
- Added three new categories: “Gunnies I’ve met”, “Other Bloggers”, and “Podcasts.”
- Added links to two of my favorite podcasts: “B, B and Guns” and “Viscous Circle”. B,B & Guns features Bonnie, Breda, and, well, guns. Viscous Circle is what it would be like to sit around for 2, or three, or sometimes god help us even 4 or 5 hours and bullshit with your gunnie friends. (*WARNING*: Please see the attached README about the importance of not clicking on any links from Viscous Circle.)
- Corrected a bug in which there was no link to Mule Breath.
- Changed blog layout based on results of extensive focus group testing. (“Honey? What do you think about this?”
Hope everyone enjoys this maintenance release. Our next scheduled release is whenever I am shamed by a fellow blogger.
Shamed!
JayG just sent me email informing me that I had not listed him on my blogroll. I humbly beg forgiveness. It is a result of my incredibly shitty record keeping. Just ask the feds.
In all seriousness, my bad. I’ve been reading American Rage Boy for quite a while now.
Sorry, Jay G.
Back in the States and new blogroll addition
Well, I’m back from my week long Russian sojourn. Lots of great learnings.
Welcome to the blogroll Weer’d Beard, who has a new home at Weerd World.
